Span (Published at The Writers Club)

It hurts so much
to grow up fast,
realizing childhood
could not last.
Unchain myself
from memories,
of aimless days,
sweet melodies

It stings so much
to open eyes,
engulfed in chores
with no surprise.
Grown bitterness
of a routine,
no lingered songs
in harmony.

Your life becomes
required lists,
a pointless chase,
you must persist.
Racing against
a time now gone,
only know rest
after you yawn.

It feels so good
to live carefree,
erase visions
of what should be.
Be grateful for
the people near,
so heart felt laughs
can reappear.

Be glad that you
still have today,
knowing that life
can always change.
See yesterday
as needed steps,
since lessons learned
bring great effects

  1. May the lessons learned with benefits gained and sunny days of merriment always weigh down the scales of life experience <3

  2. โ€œwith no surpriseโ€ โ€” I think thatโ€™s really strong. Children are surprised all the time and mostly it makes them happy. At some adults stop being surprised AND stop wanting to be surprised

  3. Yesterdays are necessary steps and from those lessons learned we have lessons to face tomorrow with wisdom.
I am happy to walk in your feelings, dear friend Grace.
    Greetings and hugs.

  4. That’s the way of life perfectly described; I reminisce about my youth a lot. Everything was simpler then. Great poem, thanks for sharing and have a nice day!

  5. That’s truly a stunning poem, Grace! I feel like everyone would feel that way in some part of their life. Childhood goes away fast and looking back the only thing special would be the memories you made back then. It would always hold a special place in everyone’s heart. Love it ๐Ÿ’•

  6. Heart is heavy and these words just spoke to me now. Holding back tears ๐Ÿฅน because Iโ€™m amongst company I dare not share such emotion

    1. Also, congrats on yet another publishing credit! Well deserved, indeed. And finally, I see this comment made it to your blog by using WP Reader rather than commenting directly on your blog. Glad to have found a workaround to the strange error I mentioned earlier. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Thanks so much. Iโ€™m thrilled to see your comment, Mike. I was actually going to work on it with WP this morning so I really donโ€™t know what happened. Hopefully it is resolved. Truly appreciate all of your help, my friend.๐Ÿ’•

  7. Congratulations, Grace! A great poem indeed! See yesterday
as needed steps…a good reminder and advice ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’โค๏ธ
