Two – Two Person Rengay

I was invited back in September to collaborate on a Rengay-style poem with David of Skeptic’s Kaddish, and I was truly honored. It was my first time trying the form, and I learned a lot while having fun exploring it with David, who is a wonderful writer. This week he asked me to create another one with him, and it was just as enjoyable and inspiring. I hope everyone enjoys the poems as much as we enjoyed writing them.💕

Quiet Blossom by David and Grace

walk slowly beneath the trees
I inhale the quiet air
feel deep roots under my feet
– GR

ancestors call forth softly
through the marrow of old stones – DB

worn wounds no longer whisper
they sleep soundly in my bones
the past fades like morning fog – GR

squirrel buries nuts
forgetting by dinnertime
where its trove lies hid – DB

new seeds grow where loss once lived
life remembers yet moves on -GR

knees scrape on gravel
mother gathers her toddler
before the tears fall – DB

What Lies Below by David and Grace

smart from the waist up—
nobody on Zoom suspects
my boxers below
– DB

a soft breeze drifts through the room
truth wavers dangerously
– GR

cool tingles gather
tiny strands rise in the wind
chills pulse over skin
– DB

curtains tremble light
secrets brush the open air
breath holds, almost told
– GR

pressure surges suddenly
I turn off screenview and bolt
– DB

chair quickly swivels
waist up lies echo softly
bashful boxers bow
– GR

  1. What a beautiful collaboration, Grace and David 👏. This collaborative poem conveys a profound sensitivity: its imagery and transitions strike a balance—between the intimate and the universal, between silence and emotion. I love how each verse evokes roots, memory, change, and rebirth, with a delicacy that touches the heart.

    Best regards and hugs. 👏🤗

  2. Didn’t know anything about this poetry form – really nice! I like them both – different styles. Well done to both of you!
