Infinite Dad (Published at The Writers Club)

Protective teacher, greatest friend,
infinite bond without an end.
Before each fall your hand extends.
My wrongs and rights you would defend.

With just one look, into my eyes,
you knew all truths I tried to hide.
Always candid, laughed at my lies,
so many fights that made you sigh.

A mix of strength and affection
taught me great faith with direction.
You made life safe, gave protection,
an ultimate mute connection.

Your heart my home with open doors,
festive embrace that I adored,
sincerest love felt at my core,
stories you told made me want more.

Walked by my side showed me you cared,
gave me advice, wisdom you shared,
ignited light made sure I dared,
then you were gone, I felt so scared.

Now you are free from any pain,
I celebrate memories gained,
your body is gone, essence remains,
nothing can break our strong linked chain.

My dad passed away last year and this was a very hard first year without him physically on earth.
He suffered a couple of strokes in 2016 and lived but in a bedridden state, paralyzed on his good side, in much pain I found out later at his funeral. He didn’t want me to know how much he was suffering. Yet the five years he lived as such were some of my most memorable times when he was lucid. These words of your soulful poem enhance these memories to a great extent. I still feel him with me though and often see signs…
Thank you Grace~ and another congratulations on publishing one of your poems<3 Victoria
