Deception

An out of reach castle,
shimmers from outside,
so cold, dark and hollow,
if viewed from inside.

Empty rooms feel shallow,
with no place to hide,
air too thick to swallow,
walls coated with pride.

Eyes fill up with darkness,
while hungry for light,
envy swift with sharpness
blurs away clear sight.

Laughter turns to harshness,
dims everything bright,
jealousy kills fondness,
hearts dance in dark spite.

Fingers on the handle,
brings instant insight,
ignites inner candle,
hearts climb to new heights.

Notice the bare mantle,
chipped paint, dusty white,
covets are all canceled,
life starts to feel right.

A new gained acceptance,
as all truths align,
self built independence,
unique by design.

Genuine acceptance
exposes great shine,
strong powerful essence,
selflove so divine.

  1. So lovely and hopeful lines, Grace! This stanza stood out for me-
    Laughter turns to harshness,
    dims everything bright,
    jealousy kills fondness,
    hearts dance in dark spite.

  2. “selflove so divine.” I love the entire poem but that last line is bad ass! You rock, Grace of the Sun!

  3. My goodness….so many lines that just jump off the page! Love the growth through this beautiful piece, Grace! 💞💞💞
