Summer Celebration

The sun beams soft on garden walls,
where jasmine climbs and shadow falls,
but somewhere near, a sweetness wakes,
lingering scent of summer cakes.

It drifts through open windowpanes,
with hints of almond, cream, and grains,
memories baked in tender heat,
now floating down the cobbled street.

A buttered breeze, a sugared sigh,
like laughter echoing the sky,
it clings to time, both bold and slight,
a ghost of joy in golden light.

Sweet treat is gone, the plates are bare,
yet still it dances in the air,
fragrance so warm, surreal, and true,
a spell of June that never flew.

  1. Absolutely beautiful poetry Grace. You had my mind drifting to those beautiful scenes you painted with your fantastic imagery example:
    “memories baked in tender heat,
now floating down the cobbled street.
A buttered breeze, a sugared sigh,
like laughter echoing the sky,…” Superb!

  2. A delicate and enveloping poem that captures the ephemeral but persistent magic of a summer moment. It is a hymn to sensory memory, to those small pleasures – a cake, a breeze, a laugh – that, although they disappear physically, remain as soft spells in our consciousness.

    Hugs from afar, Grace.

  3. This description beautifully weaves together the sensory delights of summer—fragrance, flavor, and memory—into a tapestry of nostalgia and warmth. Its gentle imagery lingers in the mind, much like the sweet scents it so vividly describes.

  4. This is just divine!
“A buttered breeze, a sugared sigh,
    like laughter echoing the sky,
it clings to time, both bold and slight,
a ghost of joy in golden light.”

Your lines are stunning, Grace! 💕
