Step Forward

Every smile becomes a frown,
happy wishes hit the ground.
Joy is lost and never found,
good deeds rarely turn around.
Sorrows fall and keep hearts down,
problems choke without a sound.
Tears drop swiftly till hopes drown,
feeling torn, alone, and bound.

Paint a smile to reset frown,
pick all wishes off the ground.
Search inside till joys are found,
scatter good deeds all around.
Sweep up sorrows that fell down,
fulfillment sings without sound.
Blissful tears can never drown,
peace of mind, free, and unbound.

  1. I like these unique formats. They add an extra layer of depth to the poem, and they’re just fun read. I like the repurposing of the ending words from the first stanza’s lines–such a dramatic change of tone and direction. Wonderful stuff, Grace! 🙂

  2. Just the kind of poem that I needed to read after a personally troubling day. Thank you, Grace.

  3. Beautiful Grace. Wonderful repainting of moving from a frown to a smile. Funny I used frown in a twitter poem today. 💖
xo wonderful reminders my friend! 💖

  4. I enjoyed your rhyme scheme….it seems perfect for your theme of honesty and tears..and the ending was uplifting and hopeful. A beautiful poem
