Secure

So sorry that my hair is curly,
sorry my body is curvy,
So sorry your eyes must see,
every last bit that makes me, me.

So sorry that I’m not enough,
or that I act a little rough.
So sorry you can’t understand
or accept me, the way I am.

So sorry that I felt this way,
so happy that my views have swayed.
Never sorry for who I am,
instead grateful, I took a stand.

So happy that my hair has waves,
so happy I am now so brave,
enough to laugh off, all critique,
loving myself, being unique.

So happy that I never broke,
so happy I no longer choke,
I know that I was made perfect,
not put on earth as an object.

So grateful for all that I know,
so grateful I now run my show.
Teaching others, what life taught me,
not dictating who they should be.

  1. This is a wonderful poem and so empowering and I’m so happy your hair curls and you’re always a beacon of light for everyone so they too can embrace all parts of themselves, the good, bad and ugly!

  2. Wow!!! Preach it woman!! Absolutely Love this powerful poem!! It shows such strength, courage, and resilience!! Embracing who we are as humans and not allowing this world, or trauma define who we are, shows such power, strength, courage, and resilience.

  3. Absolutely brilliant Grace! 👏👏👌👌 Love how you move from apologising for who you are to embracing & being proud of who you are! 😁❤️

  4. Beautiful and powerful poem with a great message, Grace! Self acceptance is the first step to success. Good one 👌💖💐

  5. I love this so much and it’s meaningful to me. The speaker grew as a person as I read. It was really interesting seeing them reframe their thoughts–from guilty to unapologetically accepting themselves.

  6. It’s written so perfectly! Awesome work. It takes away all the self doubt one can ever have 👍👍

  7. Oh, Grace, I love this transformation! “so grateful I now run my show”….I am still striving to get to this stage of growth. Beautiful, beautiful poem 💞💞💞
