Play Pretend

They run away
when she is sad,
she plays pretend,
to make them glad.
A smile attracts more of the same,
but tears cascade with profound shame.

When life is good
all hands are in,
but shades of blues
fade bonds too thin.
Forget the pain just dance and sing,
swallow sad thoughts and wear a grin.

She makes believe,
constantly tries,
hopes to find truths
within her lies.
Carries the burdens thrown by all,
close allies hide before she falls.

A hollow space
fills up her heart,
prays depression
somehow departs.
Slowly inhales, shuts her eyes tight,
clear visions spark an inner light.

Hears voices whisper in her mind,
wisdom so sweet and ever kind.

“Others will act in their own way,
do not let brightness fade or sway.
Tomorrow carries wants and goals,
learn to” let go”, regain control .”

A shiny smile caressed her lips,
stagnant sadness suddenly slips.
Inside pure joy tickled her soul,
at last she felt complete and whole.

  1. This one really touches the soul. I love the hope you convey in your poetry, that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. It’s so uplifting in a world where there is so much fear and sorrow. Thanks, Grace. πŸ™‚

  2. Absolutely beautiful lines, Grace…the pain is there & so is the hope…self-love is the key that unlocks that door βœ¨πŸ’ŸπŸ’«

  3. learn to” let go”, regain control…I go with this, and the last line says it all. Very well written, Grace πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–

  4. Beautifully said, Grace! I’m grateful for those friends who can see beyond the pretend…and either meet me where I am or pretend with me until we make it reality. πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž
