False Illusion

Toxic positivity,
pushes happiness after loss,
ignores negativity,
pretend sorrows shine like gloss.

Make believe that all is well,
bad comes with a good reason,
hidden bruises will never swell,
false zeal cradles cold seasons.

Hold tears back, swallow all cries,
focus on the brighter side,
do your best or at least try,
blues and grays forever hide.

Feel a lump stuck in closed throat,
heavy heart makes feelings choke,
panic steals reasons to gloat,
suppressed thoughts cheerfully poke.

Knock so loud, no one is there,
trust emotions, really care,
shove true feelings till thoughts dare,
to accept what seems unfair.

Allow tears to escape eyes,
a pure heartbeat can not lie,
sometimes life can offer sighs,
lessons blow wisdom flies high.

Could it really be so bad?
to ignore what makes us sad?
At times ignorance can add,
room to force mad into glad.

Do whatever will work best,
to run, hop, or skip life’s test.
A deep breath, maybe some rest,
could provide warmth in your chest.

  1. “Toxic positivity.” That’s good, that’s smart to write about. I was pondering a truth that discipline requires a hiding of feelings–and I decided that’s not true at all. I appreciate your constructive look at things. Acknowledge what is sad, remember what is good, then take a breath and go on.

  2. Quite the point, dear Grace. Ignoring a problem isn’t solving it; it’s simple postponing it. Difficult moments need to be dealt with when they come, I believe 🌺💖

  3. So well penned Grace! And so real as many seem to have every answer to whatever hard times you may experience. Abuse of positivity can create more harm.
    Have a great day!
