Try Again

Enslaved by distrust,
hidden to survive.
Heart enlaced with rust,
half dead, half alive.

Numbed to all the pain,
seasoned by betrayal.
Pure loss always gains,
dreams were made to fail.

Cries without a tear,
screams but no one hears,
cover his own ears,
to shelter deep fears.

Face falls to the ground,
slowly looks around,
Wears his masks so proud,
adjusts tilted crown.

Character greets death,
no need to endure,
takes a profound breath
instantly assured.

Stands on his two feet,
holds head in the air,
inner force defeats,
then tempts him to dare.

Knows way deep inside
he should start anew,
Worn heart opens wide,
cradles brighter views.

  1. Well penned Grace, the darkness never stays forever. I like how you broughyse poetic light into your words:

    “cradles brighter views.”
    – Brilliant take on the prompt.

  2. As soon as I saw this mask I had to tap in and read this poem. It’s so intense – the idea of being half alive. Reading it more than once makes the lines read like a dance, but a risky one for sure. But I’m the end it’s like this character has a change in perspective.

  3. Now THAT, was a good poem! Lots of deep expression here! The first four lines gets you right into it. And the ending was a good twist. Thanx for such a moving piece…

  4. Amazing image, and equally beautiful are your verses, Grace! At times it’s better to start afresh 💖💐

  5. Great picture pairing with your awesome poem Grace. I do love the words and imagery you chose to get someone’s “head on straight” and see the light. Superb writing Grace❤️

  6. Grace, your poem is a profound portrayal of resilience and strength in the face of adversity. The imagery you’ve woven through your words is both captivating and moving. It reminds us that even in our darkest moments, hope can be found, and new beginnings await. Beautifully penned! 🌟📝
