The Line

With one last tear set in my eye,
frustration griped as I asked “why”,
“Why did I play your game of lies?”
forming daydreams out of mere sighs.

Why did my heart believe and care,
while your heartbeat was never there?
I gave you all I had to bear,
in exchange for your hollow stare?

Why did I choose to always try?
frantically searched for bright sides,
tasted and swallowed every cry,
efforts to please your stubborn pride.

Could it be that I disliked me?
So I made all your “wants” my “needs”,
let you highlight my world and lead,
learned to pretend, simply agreed.

Sundown melts into full moonlight,
a clear warm tug fills me inside,
feeds my spirit concrete insight,
I finally let my soul guide.

At some point our paths may blend,
we may even be pseudo friends,
I know your love does not tie ends,
but firm boundaries never bend.

  1. Wow! Heartbreak can cause such deep wounds. But there is hope in setting boundaries…”that never bend.”
Deep reflection of the soul, Grace. Very well done!!

  2. Truly heartfelt and so well penned Grace. Such truths shared and hard to rally from sometimes and yet your words truly shed light here which are so well spoken in this great stanza.
