My heart despises the cruel kind,
ones that play games with other minds.
They often cheat, embrace deceit,
and never turn the other cheek.
Most carry spite, are always right,
smiling while instigating fights.
The narcissist with no regret,
always searching for more to get.
Provoking tears when they are near,
knock spirits down simply from fear.

They teach me how to defeat fears,
wipe my own tears, when they are near.
Providing lessons to forget,
forgiving them, absolves regrets.
Avoiding spite, dissolving fights,
allows my conscience to feel right.
I learn from them to turn a cheek,
how not to cheat, or hold deceit.
To not let them play with my mind,
so my strong heart can remain kind.

  1. Ah, but how often I delight in the soulful crisis of the cruel and wanton. I suppose that it is good that someone grows from it, but I hope you do not mind if I wallow in that misery for a rich vein to mine or bleed. All said, a delicious turn of the cheek for the misery of mankind.

  2. Right on point and a great poem! ❀I wish I didn’t relate to this so much. I have a ‘covert’ narcissist in my life and it’s so hard to not give in to the games/stay kind.

    1. It is hard to deal with that type of personality. Stay strong and positive. Glad you liked this piece but wish it did not resonate as well.πŸ’•β€οΈπŸ™πŸ’•

  3. Comparing the two hearts brilliantly
    One deceitful ,other loving unfailingly
The strong heart , yet remaining kind
The cruel playing games with mind
Wow Grace, ,I loved the way you brought it out excellently, in a flawless flowπŸ’•πŸ’•

  4. This is a tough battle but once we are done with them, life is much better.
You described so well these people who think they can take your soul away.
    Deep meaning here !❀!❀

  5. Well chosen words. Your poems always have such a lot of feelings in them, Grace. Keep up the good work!
