Swallowed Tears

Crystal tears fall from sad eyes,
made of pain she held inside,
numbness stole the need to cry,
shook her head and simply sighed.

Shook her head and simply sighed,
watch as years migrate through time,
deep within, pieces had died,
every time she failed to climb.

Every time she failed to climb,
motivation was declined,
turn sweet goals to bitter lime,
newfound fears fog up her mind.

Newfound fears fog up her mind,
hopeful heart transformed old sights,
force bad thoughts to become kind,
gathered tears light up so bright.

Gathered tears light up so bright,
bright future will always rise,
happiness deep inside shines,
crystal tears fall from blessed eyes.

  1. As I was reading your poem, I thought of “The Lady of Shallot” by Tennyson, I’m imagining, of course; but I think if we got more of the Lady’s thoughts on things, they could come across like or as what you wrote. And if she let herself be more of herself, she might have had a better ending, as you say for your subject. Setting my imagination aside, this is engaging work!

  2. Tears remain the same, whether from sad eyes or blessed eyes. A beautiful transformation in this inspiring poem, Grace 💐💖

  3. Beautifully done, Grace! I love how this form acts like a staircase for your wonderful words, each stanza starting from the ‘step’ before and climbing higher. 💞💞💞
