Inner Child

She gazes through the misty panes,
a wooden bench just brushed by rains.
Gazes past thoughts that cross her mind,
lands on echos both warm and kind.

Tall pretty trees serve as a screen,
a grassy yard, a quiet scene.
Within this hush she drifts in time,
back to her youth, soft raindrops chime.

Lush branches dance in gentle sway,
with blades of green in silver gray.
The quiet stirs a softer place,
great memories never erase.

A little girl can soon be seen,
a roadside puddle, fresh and clean.
She leaps, the water splashing high,
a grin of glee beneath the sky.

That laughter hums within her still,
a simple joy no years can kill.
As the cool drizzles slowly fall,
she softly smiles and feels it all.

Now in this place where dew drops gleam,
she finds her heart still loves that dream.
Although the years have slipped away,
the child in her still loves to play.

This weeks prompt offered two picture options. This poem was inspired by both pictures. 💕

  6. Although the years have slipped away the child in her still loves to play…. thats exactly how ive been feeling today. I just turned 40 in July and sometimes i find myself dwelling on the past like i missed something…. When i think about it i really didnt miss anything. I also have never been closer to finding my soulmate. Soulmate yes thats what ive been missing. Although im whole today i cant help but to feel like something or someone is missing and yes its my soulmate. And look at that she just texted me lol…. im so close
