Courting

A flirty bird,
flapping around,
draws small circles,
above my crown.

Whistles release,
flapping around,
lyrical songs,
whimsical sounds.

Looks right at me,
flapping around,
cocks back his head,
to stare me down.

Dances so free,
flapping around.
Emotions rise,
pure bliss compounds.

Shows feathers off,
flapping around,
all long lost hope,
swiftly rebounds.

Flies up away,
flapping around,
as my heart melts,
true love is found.

  1. This reminds me of attempting to make friends with hummingbirds at the farm many years ago. I had a bright orange baseball cap and the hummingbirds were attracted to it. I would stand still and they’d hover mere inches from my face. I could feel the wind from their tiny wings. Fun times. Nicely done, Grace. πŸ™‚

  2. The miracle of life can be appreciated among their flights and trills and there is no greater joy than to enjoy their presence. Colorful lyrics you share with us today, friend Grace. A thousand hugs.

  3. ..in the end true love is found
I love the repetition of ‘flapping around’ shows me that the bird is here, there, back here…spreading good cheers
    Well written Grace.

  4. A lovely piece, Grace! We may learn a lot from friends. Your last lines…as my heart melts,
true love is found… are superb πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–

  7. I love feeding birds and coming across them. Peacock to noisy naughty birds who never hurt and take bath all day under sunlight at my backyard. They eat peanuts and don’t share with squirrels lol.

  8. Wow this makes me feel like I am in a field on a nice day with slight breeze sitting in the sunlight. I can feel the soft touch of the wind , the warmth of the sun and the sweet sounds of the birds movements and whistles. This was great, it calmed me so much thank you!
