A highbrowed turtle,
nuzzled in a tough shell,
emotions once slipped,
but never quite fell.
Smartypants turtle
has nothing to learn,
frowning at others
with her nose upturned.
Experienced a life
of entitled paved ways,
humility ran with
no reason to stay.

One day met her match,
but could not believe,
dung beetle so strong,
was turtle deceived?
So full of powers,
unpleasant to see,
with the simplest form
complex underneath.
She hid in her home,
could not understand,
her eyes were quite wise
no room to expand.

How could this creature
that only ate waste,
have so many skills
and very fine taste?
Confusion set in
trying to engage,
greeting the beetle,
but feeling quite strange.
An intimidation
gave the turtle a tug,
as fear of rejection,
made her scared to be snubbed.

These new emotions
taught turtle how it felt,
from the receiving end
of cards, she once dealt.
Curious to know
what the beetle possessed,
she approached her quickly,
and story expressed.
Dung beetle was kind
sharing all her gifts,
teaching the turtle,
to touch and uplift.

Pick

A sunny window
shows birds flying free,
peace filling the air
joys swim in the breeze
.

A darkened shadow
obstructing all views,
dragging a thick chain
as the panic grew.

The calming warm wind
sound jingling chimes,
euphoric wishes,
travel far through time.

The loudest dog bark
is distantly heard,
screams freeze deep inside,
spoken words are slurred
.

Icy cold water,
a semi-parched throat.
Champagne everywhere,
glass up for a toast.

Consumed bitterness,
scratch thirsty dry throat.
Envisioning drinks,
finding a dry moat.

Nostrils sniff streams
of flowered perfumes.
An increasing scent,
as new ones just bloom.

Inhaling skunk musk,
lingered in the air.
Throwing both arms up,
while screaming, unfair!

Graze the reflection,
a sandpaper scrape.
No place left to run,
or hopes for escape.

A caressing touch
with the mildest hue,
breaks negative up,
showing what is true.

Courting

A flirty bird,
flapping around,
drawing circles
above my crown
.

Whistles at me,
flapping around,
lyrical songs
without a sound
.

Looking at me,
flapping around,
cocking his head
staring me down
.

Flying away,
flapping around,
as my heart melts
hitting the ground
.

My wish for you

May raindrops wash away your tears,
as moonlit skies absorb your fears.

May happiness fill up your heart,
as sorrowed thoughts quickly depart.

May your eyes always find the truth,
as passing days bring gifts of youth.

May judgments slip so you stand tall,
as angel wings capture your falls.

May sweetened words cover your ears,
as kindness guides stories you hear.

May lessons gained keep your brain smart,
as joyful times enhance your art.

May every heart you meet be true,
as sincere flows always find you.

May only friends answer your calls,
as life becomes your greatest ball.

May obstacles instantly clear,
as peaceful waves fill up your years
.

Malice

Surrounded by a darkened hue,
talk without reason or a clue,
your uttered words are hardly true,
raw chaos feels at home with you
.

Erratic tones possess your voice,
portray a victim without choice,
killing the peace with your loud noise,
envying those with natural poise.

Wishing me bad, I wished you good,
you never knew I understood,
I tried to help, did what I could,
your mind was a block of dense wood.

So sad to see what you became,
a grown-up with no ounce of shame,
no one is left to play your games,
now only mirrors can be blamed.

I truly wish you change your ways,
sincerely hope you are okay,
so hurt inside, for you I pray,
that the sun melts despair away.

This life you live is what you choose,
the future may bring better shoes,
but if you choose to cause abuse,
you will soon find, that you will lose
.

Solace

You promised to stay,
but your actions were swayed.

I could not remain,
heavy-hearted with pain
.

Left here all alone,
I feel like a lost stone
.
Seasons carry time,
mine arrived as bells chimed.

You seem nonchalant,
did you get what you want?

Do not ask what you know,
as relief I now own
.

Wanting back what I had,
missing you makes me sad.

Though we may be apart,
love has no end or start.

Learning how to accept,
teaches me to connect.

As your smile lights me up,
filling my empty cup.

With a loving farewell,
no more reasons to dwell.

I am always with you,
essence forever true.

Lessons

Lessons remove
innocence,
curing unknown
ignorance,
absorbing shunned
divergence,
preventing cold
consequence
.

Lessons arrive
abruptly.
At times they feel
unjustly.
Unaware of
benefits,
expands thoughts to
better fit
.

Lessons provide
expertise,
necessary
guarantees.
Opened eyes can
always see,
preventing waves
of unease.

Lessons remain
endlessly,
elevating
tenderly,
assigning new
dignity,
guiding towards
unity
.
