I was invited back in September to collaborate on a Rengay-style poem with David of Skepticโs Kaddish, and I was truly honored. It was my first time trying the form, and I learned a lot while having fun exploring it with David, who is a wonderful writer. This week he asked me to create another one with him, and it was just as enjoyable and inspiring. I hope everyone enjoys the poems as much as we enjoyed writing them.๐
Quiet Blossom by David and Grace
walk slowly beneath the trees
I inhale the quiet air
feel deep roots under my feet โ GR
ancestors call forth softly
through the marrow of old stones โ DB
worn wounds no longer whisper
they sleep soundly in my bones
the past fades like morning fog โ GR
squirrel buries nuts
forgetting by dinnertime
where its trove lies hid โ DB
new seeds grow where loss once lived
life remembers yet moves on -GR
knees scrape on gravel
mother gathers her toddler
before the tears fall โ DB
What Lies Below by David and Grace
smart from the waist upโ
nobody on Zoom suspects
my boxers below โ DB
a soft breeze drifts through the room
truth wavers dangerously โ GR
cool tingles gather
tiny strands rise in the wind
chills pulse over skin โ DB
curtains tremble light
secrets brush the open air
breath holds, almost told โ GR
pressure surges suddenly
I turn off screenview and bolt โ DB
chair quickly swivels
waist up lies echo softly
bashful boxers bow โ GR
