My yard offers a comfort zone,
a serene place to call your own.
The endless journey you have flown,
brings you right back, but not alone.
I wake up to your egg filled nest,
feel a great joy deep in my chest.
Happy to see my cherished guest,
choose my home for safety and rest.
Leave for a feed though not for long,
hesitant but you must stay strong.
Your partner sits where you belong,
hear your return through whistled songs.
Two weeks swiftly pass by so fast,
your hatchlings form a multicast,
their distinct chirps make echoes last,
listening to them is a blast.
I see you teach fledglings to try,
you push them till they learn to fly.
Feel prideful tears reach both my eyes,
knowing it’s time to say good bye.
Look forward to this time next year,
your visits bring me so much cheer.
I will make sure your space is cleared,
perfectly set when you appear.
