Warm sunny wisdom.
Brilliant fountain of support.
Endless connection.

Who cares about “wants” anyway?
Fulfill all “needs” to be okay?
Assured to last another day,
colorful “wants” keep all “needs” gray.

Should we be “grateful” and not “wish”?
Anchored in stagnancy if switched?
To be content with being nourished,
without a need to gain or flourish.

Will my thirst be quenched in this cycle?
Erasing “goals” while walking “idle”?
Both “wants” and “need” hold a recital,
secretly fighting for the tittle.

Can we transform “wants” into “needs”?
Will “wishes” sprout like planted seeds?
Success proceeds and takes the lead,
while “gratitude” helps hopes exceed.

Written in response to Rebecca’s May 2023 Poetry Challenge

Rebecca’s ( Fake Flamenco) Prompt:
This month we will write a haiku (5/7/5 syllables) using the phrase “Waterfall of Stars.” While reading a YA story recommended by our teen called The Barren Grounds by David A. Robertson, Rebecca came across this phrase and thought it was beautiful. Haikus don’t officially have titles, though if you prefer to save your syllables you may use it that way.
